Sobriety: 0% Alcohol 100% Nonsense Part 2: Alcohol-Free Beer
As I mentioned at the end of my last blog post, this post is going to look at the non-alcoholic drink that kicked off the alcohol-free or 0% industry long before there was a known demand for such products.
The invention that launched the 0% alcohol industry over 40 years ago, long before it became a staple of bar culture around the world, is, funnily enough, Beer.
The irony that it came from one of the first alcoholic beverages created by man hasn’t been lost on me. Given that the first Beers were made in Neolithic Europe as far back as 5,000 years ago.
Your typical Beer drinker, for example, who isn’t drinking but still meets up with their mates at the pub after a long day at work. If they are a Beer drinking but are trying to stay off the booze but still want to drink something that looks like a Beer, feels like a Beer, smells like a Beer, and tastes like a Beer but doesn’t have the 4–8% Alcohol By Volume (ABV) that makes Beer…well, Beer.
Leave it to the Germans
The only question was how to make this dream a reality. Of all the nations to come up with a way…
